Ad630 is a high-precision balanced modulator / demodulator, which combines the precision and temperature stability provided by flexible commutation structure and laser wafer cutting thin film resistor. The resistor network for on-board applications provides a precision closed-loop gain of ± 1 and ± 2 with an accuracy of 0.05% (ad630b).
These resistors can also be used to accurately configure the multiplexer gain of 1, 2, 3 or 4. External feedback supports high gain or complex switching feedback topology. Ad630 can be considered as a precision operational amplifier with two independent differential input stages and a precision comparator for selecting active front end.
The fast response time of the comparator, coupled with the high rotation rate and the rapid settling of the linear amplifier, greatly reduces the switching distortion. The ad630 is used for precise signal processing and instrumentation applications that require a wide dynamic range of signals. When used as a synchronous demodulator in lock-in amplifier configuration, ad630 can recover a small signal from 100dB interference noise (see lock-in amplifier application section). Although the optimized operation is up to 1kHz, the circuit is useful at frequencies of hundreds of Hertz.
